WHAT SHOULD YOU SELECT WATER or OIL BASED CAR AIR FRESHENER?

There are two types- Oil & water based. What is the difference? As name implies the diluent is either some form of oil or petroleum derived solvent or water. Since all of the fragrances are essential oils, they readily go into oil but do not easily go into water. To get any fragrance into water first the fragrance is combined with one or more surfactants-synthetic soaps, then the water is added. Thus, in water based fragrance, the diluent is soapy water.

WHAT IS BETTER?

Oils generally evaporate at about 450º F, much slower rate compared to water which evaporates at 212º F. Thus oil air freshener will last longer in the car than the water based. Water based air freshener generally lasts about a day or two, where as oil based  air freshener will last about 4-5 days, about a week. That means the week-end comes around - a time to wash the car and spray the air freshener again!

When you spray oil based air freshener, after a while everything evaporates and nothing is left behind. However, when water based fragrance is sprayed, after a while water and fragrance is evaporated, but the surfactant used to dissolve fragrance into water still sticks around. So, it attracts dirt, dust and soils the area. Oil based fragrance will cost you initially a little bit more, but it is the best value for your money.

DO CAR AIR FRESHENERS STAIN? 

Allbrite has tested their fragrances over the years and we do not have problem per se. Really Vanilla scent had some issues on GM grey color carpets on suberbuns. Thus, we recommend our detailers to spray the car air fresheners in  inconspicuous areas like under the car seats. That is the best place to spray the air fresheners because they do not get destroyed by grease on your sholes of shoes.
